Michelle Balan

Volunteer Chair

Michelle Balan is a long-term resident of ‪Las Vegas. Her passion for empowering at-risk and homeless youth started at 17 and has only continued to grow. She has made it her life mission to empower those that need it most. ‬

Michelle has firsthand experience of the hardships of being a struggling single mother. She was determined to overcome anything that came her way. Throughout all her struggles, she continued her volunteer work. Michelle was determined that no matter what was going on in her life, she was going to give back to those who had even less than she did. These experiences have given her a personal connection with those facing the same obstacles. Michelle draws on her personal experiences when empowering at risk and homeless youth.

She first started volunteering with Shannon West and Culture of Peace as a Volunteer Youth Panelist. This single experience ignited her passion for empowering others. During that time, she was invited to attend a youth leadership camp, Camp Anytown, that planted a seed for her philanthropy work.

Ten years later Michelle would return to Camp Anytown as a staff member and expanded her passion of empowerment in the nonprofit sector. She then dedicated the next decade of her life volunteering with various organizations, including churches and nonprofits that focused on the underprivileged and at-risk youth within the Las Vegas community.

Michelle was a Volunteer Coordinator for Southern Nevada Children First – an organization that helps homeless, pregnant and parenting teens. She also volunteered with Street Teens – an organization that helps homeless youth. Michelle has also mentored youth with St. Jude’s Ranch for Children’s Transitional Housing Program and Healing Hearts, including working with kids with special needs and has been an advocate against sex trafficking.

She is a Board Member for Vegas Youth Ambassadors, Advisor for Saving Jane and Founder of Community HEAL – a program that helps connect people to resources and services as well as reach different demographics through street outreach.

Michelle has joined the B.E. A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation as a Volunteer Chair and brings her vast experience as a volunteer with her career experience in administration, operations and management to empower women in Southern Nevada. Michelle believes that empowering the youth regardless of their circumstances in life is the best way to ensure that the future is bright, and everyone has the chance to find their success in life regardless of where they come from.
