  • Event volunteers
  • Clothes donations

Affiliate SHERO Team

Nonprofit organizations are exploring how to work together in new and creative ways.

  • Demand for services has increased, along with competition for financial resources, making the drive towards efficiency increasingly important.
  • Duplication of services is viewed as wasteful.
  • Some types of restructuring are equated with cost-savings.
  • The social issues that nonprofits address are larger and more complex and call for scaled-up solutions.

Ways to Collaborate:

  • Co-locate or better utilize space
  • Purchase goods and / or services together
  • Combine marketing efforts
  • Development (fundraising) activities
  • Form a single point solution to deliver a program or provide administrative services
  • Share developing, offering, delivering projects, programs and services
  • Share staff, training, grant writing, media, administration, transportation and housing
  • Resulting in one integrated organization

Join us at our upcoming meeting on
Tuesday, May 8th
at 4:00 PM

2610 S Jones Blvd. Suite 3
Las Vegas, NV 89146

Our guest speaker will be
Dr. Randal Christensen, featured below.
Randal Charles Christensen, MD, MPH
Chief Medical Officer
Nevada Health Centers

After graduating in 1990 from the University of Arizona with a BA in Sociology, Randal Christensen earned both his MD and his MPH degrees from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1995.  He then began a four year combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics program in Phoenix, Arizona.
Upon graduating from his residency program, Dr. Christensen began working at Phoenix Children’s Hospital as the Medical Director of the Crews’n Healthmobile.  His role at the hospital expanded to include the Division Chief of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, as well as the President of the Medical Staff.  In 2016 he left Arizona to become the Chief Medical Officer for the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Nevada.  Currently he is providing the leadership to grow the organization both in size and breadth, including building family practice residency continuity clinics and mobile medical units to treat homeless patients as well as victims of sex trafficking.  These efforts will help to serve some of the most underserved populations in Nevada.
This variety of experience is the perfect foundation for someone whose life and work is dedicated to improving the health of the community, whether that takes the form of direct care, teaching the next generation of physicians or leading the medical staff.
Education has always been a priority for Dr. Christensen and essentially, he is teaching on a daily basis.  His involvement has included educating medical students, nursing students, and residents as well as young physicians and advanced practice providers.  Peer and community education is also quite important for Dr. Christensen and he has been asked to speak to the media and at CME conferences on topics such as Adolescent Health Care, Wilderness Medicine Topics, Disaster Planning, Our Role in Katrina, Violence in the Media and Human Trafficking.
Evident throughout his career is Dr. Christensen’s strong desire to care for those children that do not have a voice. These underserved populations are the driving force behind all his aforementioned activities, as well as, his yearly trips to Washington, D.C. to advocate for children.  Today, perhaps the most important and greatest achievement was his building of the Crews’n Healthmobile. The program started in 2000 and today includes several mobile medical units and fixed clinic locations serving homeless children and adolescents in Phoenix and the surrounding communities by providing comprehensive medical and social services via a mobile medical center essentially a mobile doctor’s office on wheels. To this day this team reaches out to thousands living in poverty on the streets of Arizona.  The team has also recently started a resiliency clinic to provide medical care and services for abuse and human trafficking victims.  Caring for the underserved now in a holistic manner benefits taxpayers, hospitals, emergency rooms, the public health and most importantly the patient
Dr. Christensen has been honored with numerous awards including Health Care Hero in 2006 sponsored by the Phoenix Business Journal, CNN’s Medical Marvel in 2007, People Magazine’s Heroes Among Us in 2008, and the Dr. Richard Carmona National Doorway of Hope Award in 2008.  He is also the author of the book, “Ask Me Why I Hurt: The Kids Nobody Wants and the Doctor Who Heals Them."

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada
has been impacting and changing children lives, families and the community for over 40 years. And they're just getting started.

Since their inception in 1974, their mission has focused on providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Each time Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs a child with a role model, they start something incredible: a one-to-one relationship built on trust and friendship that can blossom into a future of unlimited potential.

National research has shown that positive relationships between Littles and their Bigs have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. By participating in our programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

More confident in their schoolwork performance;
Able to get along better with their families;
46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs;
27% less likely to begin using alcohol;
52% less likely to skip school.

For the past 44 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada has impacted the lives and families of over 20,000 children, bringing them ever-closer to their vision for the future:
That ALL children have the opportunity to achieve success in life.
