Sophia Sheng had a career with IBM managing several departments in their Internal Telecommunications area. After retiring she became a strong supporter of China Institute.
Sophia was instrumental in helping to orchestrate China Institute’s move to its present location in Lower Manhattan. As Chair of the Development Committee, she continues to oversee the expansion of China Institute’s space.
In 2002, Sophia started her Chinese contemporary art collection. She now has one of the best collections in the New York area with a special emphasis on sculpture. Sophia and her husband Abel are supporters of Chinatown Health Clinic, Rutgers University, Newark Museum, and the Honolulu Museum.
